So I simply noticed that every time my puppy (7 months) finishes eating he starts to rub his face on our couch or floor. He renders this weird sniffing noise and also just rubs his confront on it. I know it's probably not a big deal yet I was simply curious why he might be doing that? EDIT: Thanks for all the responses guys! Looks prefer this is a normal event through the majority of dogs!

Mine does this after eating something particularly yummy or messy. I constantly assumed she was simply trying to clean her muzzle.

You are watching: Why does my dog rub his face after eating

My dog does this as soon as he's extremely happy, sometimes after meals, it's called scent rolling.

thank you for this! But he doesn't really roll in his food.....he eats it and also then rubs his confront on the couch haha

You might should experiment through various textures and ingredient compositions of foods. It may be one of many type of feasible things:

a silly halittle the puppy occurred for no reason

a halittle developed out of stress and anxiety, maybe prior to you gained him (once did this behaviour start?)

itchiness due to allergic reactivity to your food

itchiness as a result of allergic reactivity to somepoint else (some grasses can be extended in fungus that has a neurotoxic impact, it's unmost likely and rare yet a possibility)

itchiness because of some type of illness or parasite

at some allude you or someone else could have rewarded this behaviour with treats or attention, and currently he thinks it's fun and also useful

And that's not an exhaustive list. So try taking some records of what he's eating, and wright here he's going/what he's doing on his walks, and also view if you can pick up on any type of patterns on when he does it. If you get any type of various other difficulties regarded food or skin, go see a vet and take your documents via you.

He just does it for a couple of seconds after he eats. I've changed his food a pair times and he's still doing it so I don't think it's the food. We gained him at 8 weeks so I don't think it's a learned actions. So I'm guessing its either a dumb halittle he has or some parawebsite that could actually be bothering him and also is motivated ideal after he eats?

Our Border Terrier pup was doing this at about 6 or 7 months, and also around a month later, he began doing it a lot even more generally. We took him to the vet to be safe, and also turned out he had pink eye. :S I'm absolutely not saying that that's what it is (he occurred various other symptoms prefer goopy eyes, etc.), however prefer rebcart states, save an eye on it and monitor for any trends. Good luck!
