I am in search of a pair of these glasses as component of a costume. I do not wear glasses, so I don"t need the frames to put my lens in, etc, I want them to be clear glass (so I deserve to see out of them) and since they are for a costume, I am only in search of a cheap pair (not a designer, high finish set of frames). The style I am going for are the VERY huge, babsence, square, boxy form glasses that Swifty Lazar wore. Also, more newly, Jerry Seinfeld"s dad (Morty) wore them as did Larry David"s father in Curb Your Enthusiasm.Does anyone understand wright here I might be able to pick up a pair on the cheap? I would have to buy them digital. Thanks!P.S. I know that a similar question was posted here earlier in 2004, but every one of the web links are dead and also I am hoping that there are brand-new alternatives to buy these because that question was posted.

I would certainly simply allude out that while the glasses appear expensive, Swifty was tiny. I think he was every one of 5"2" at his height, but by the time that photo was taken (I think in the late 80s) he was down to around 5 feet. My mom did many faces Swifty (in retrospect, I guess everyone did a lot of encounters Swifty), and also by the time I was old enough to be dragged to parties as a tall 13 year old, he was shorter than I was. So basically, this is not simply a question of big glasses, however appropriately scaled glasses because these were large glasses on a small head.posted by DarlingBri at 6:39 AM on August 1, 2013 <1 favorite>
Best answer: I have actually a pair that we bought for our much-loved Charles Nelkid Reilly (and also Brett Somers) costumes. If I knew wbelow they were, I"d sfinish "em to you. I can not uncover them at our local costume shop during non-Halloween seaboy, but I think they"re these "80s scratcher glasses. If you look for that term, you could be able to find them closer to you.posted by Madamina at 9:01 AM on August 1, 2013
Best answer: Seconding Madamina. I bought a pair of those from our now defunct regional costume shop for my costume as the old man from Up. They were labelled "80s Rapper".posted by w0mbat at 11:28 AM on August 1, 2013
