Sigh, one more custom developed software application going awry.

You watching: File locked with only readers

We have actually an application that was arisen years earlier that supposedly is currently asking for Admin legal rights to run effectively. I was hoping to run ProcMon to discover out what folders it is accessing but unfortunately I do not understand wbelow to start. This easy application seems to be generating 100,000+ occasions in a brief time.

Any certain configurations that should be made to ProcMon in order to capture failures?

Can you execute a straightforward query to the database you are trying to pull records from?

Or much better yet, using the credential of a "normal user" deserve to you pull a query to the server?

I am pretty sure, the user you are trying to accessibility the database from is unable to authenticate to the DB. Looks to me prefer a DB permissions issue, more than a neighborhood user civil liberties problem on the machine.

With ProcMon, it is all around discovering the "Filter" settings, to reduced down on the variety of occasions logged. You can filter by any type of field, and incorporate a bunch of filters together (an event need to enhance eextremely filter to be shown).

After that, you have the right to apply similar rules to "highlight" some events and also leave others, if you want.

You likewise have to simply obtain supplied to the pattern of exactly how file and registry accesses go.. Generally tright here will certainly be some failed "open"s that are vital and also expected. Look at what happens after them to watch if it"s simply puttering about trying to find optional reg keys and so on.,.

Well from what I deserve to tell it hits this Regisattempt loop with the results of "FILE LOCKED WITH ONLY READERS", followed by "NAME NOT FOUND", "REPARSE", "NAME NOT FOUND".

Nothing appears to jump out at me as being a difficulty. (As in nopoint screams PERMISSIONS MISSING HERE)

Maybe I should add, It opens fine without admin civil liberties however the second you try to pull a transactivity from the DB it simply hangs inabsolutely.

And... If you run it "via admin rights" the application does not hang indefiintely and also you are able to pull documents from the DB?

You gained it. It appears whatever it calls once I push the "Go" switch currently calls for admin civil liberties.

Wasn"t able to narrow dvery own the trouble. The dev of the app is going to look into this instead.

Thanks for the assist with ProcMon though.

Hit the head on the nail. Gave the neighborhood user read/create accessibility to the DB and also suddenly it functions fine. I can"t believe I didn"t think to examine that. (Also no errors really made it tough).

Thanks again!
