Empty imovie trash

One of the few facets of iMovie that used to vex me was the Trash. You could quickly delete clips, but tbelow was no means to open up the Trash and also pull out a deleted clip. Finally, iMovie HD changes that habits. To delete a clip:

Select a clip.

You watching: Empty imovie trash

Press the Delete vital, or click and also drag the clip to the Trash icon (Figure 7.23). Figure 7.23. To delete a clip, drag it to the Trash; or, simply select the clip and also push the Delete essential.

So far, so straightforward. Remember that iMovie isn"t actually deleting any type of file from your difficult disk, only keeping track of which sections of clips have been sent to the Trash (Figure 7.24). Figure 7.24. As clips are added, the Trash shows exactly how a lot footage is noted for deletion.

To retrieve a clip from the Trash:

Drag a clip from the window to the Clips pane or the Timeline. You have the right to ptestimonial a clip by picking it and also playing the thumbnail movie in the upper-right edge.

Click the Trash symbol to open the iMovie Trash window (Figure 7.25). Figure 7.25. Preview clips in the Trash by playing them in the upper-ideal corner.

Cshed the iMovie Trash window.

Levels of Undo don"t carry between your editing and enhancing sessions. When you quit iMovie then launch it again later, your last actions are forobtained.

Emptying the Trash

If you recognize (if you"re certain) you"re not going to require any kind of of the deleted clips later, you deserve to empty the Trash or delete selected clips in the iMovie Trash home window. (See the sidebar below to learn just what gets deleted from your difficult disk.) To empty the Trash: 1.

Choose Empty Trash from the Documents menu, or click the Trash icon and also click the Empty Trash button. To delete simply some of the clips in the Trash, select them in the list and also click Delete Selected Clips.

iMovie display screens a warning (Figure 7.26). Click Empty Trash and Save Project, or click Cancel to leave its contents untouched. Figure 7.26. I commonly think reminder dialogs are annoying, yet this is one I always pay attention to.

Don"t forget that also if you empty the Trash, you still have a backup of your clips: the original footage stored on your camcorder"s tape.

When you usage Direct Trimming to edit a clip in the Timeline, the Trash grows according to the amount of footage you"ve trimmed. However before, that footage deserve to be "pulled out of the Trash," as it were, by exposing it using the Direct Trimming editing technique. (If you have actually no idea what I"m talking aboutbecause I haven"t extended it yetview Chapter 8 for an explanation of Direct Trimming. Sorry to jump ahead, however you"ll shortly check out exactly how cool this reminder is.)

Rather than risk deleting footage accidentally, I make a suggest of never emptying the Trash till a project is entirely finishedand also maybe not even then.

iMovie HD Does Not Recompose Media Files Unprefer older versions of iMovie, emptying the Trash in iMovie HD does not recreate the media files to account for sections that have been deleted. So, if you deleted "Rhino/2" (a split percentage of the original "Rhino" clip) and you empty the Trash, the entire "Rhino" clip is still accessible to you as lengthy as one percentage is still in the Clips pane or the Timeline.

However before, if you delete an entire clip and also empty the Trash, that clip is gone for good. You"d should re-import it to get the footage back.
